Overview
The Auto Trader API allows for programmatic access to vehicle listings, enabling you to create and update listings with a push-based approach. Note that there may be delay of several minutes between a successful response from our API and the changes being visible on the website.
Access
Section titled “Access”API access is available to accounts with the autotrader processor type visible on the dealer dashboard, where you will also find your authentication details. Reach out to your Auto Trader contact if this is not visible.
Best Practices
Section titled “Best Practices”- Do not share your authentication details or access tokens.
- Endpoints are rate limited, we suggest implementing retry logic and exponential backoff in your client applications.
- Endpoints return standard HTTP status codes, e.g.
- 200 (OK): request was received and processed successfully.
- 400 (Bad Request): invalid input, and will include any validation hints as appropriate.
- 401 (Unauthorized): missing or expired or invalid access token.
- 500 (Internal server error): something went wrong on our end.
Open API
Section titled “Open API”See autotrader-openapi.yaml for an Open API 3.1 compliant specification, and Autotrader API for documentation generated from the spec.
